Green Hydrogen and PtX
Project Status:
Ongoing
This program investigates the performance and emissions characteristics of gas turbine combustors using clean hydrogen fuels and hydrogen-hydrocarbon mixtures, addressing these key research questions:
- How can gas turbine combustors be redesigned for optimal performance and emissions when using hydrogen or mixed fuels?
- What are the most effective design methods for improving fuel flexibility in micro gas turbine (MGT) systems?
- How can experimental and numerical approaches be integrated to advance fuel-flexible combustor development?
Current efforts involve numerical modelling of MGT combustors validated by experimental data, with a master’s project focused on comparing design methods. The program leverages an experimental MGT system, advanced diagnostic tools, and a dedicated lab for mixed-fuel combustion studies.
Deliverables include optimised combustor designs, emissions data, postgraduate degrees, and scientific publications, establishing SU as a leader in fuel-flexible combustion systems and supporting sustainable energy innovation.
